Administration Policies

The PLA requires a full day to complete and commences with registration and orientation at 8:00 am on the date of each scheduled administration. Unfortunately, late arriving participants cannot be provided additional time to complete the PLA. Participants are therefore encouraged to arrive on time and will be provided with breaks throughout the day. The scheduled adjournment for the assessment is at 5:00 pm.

During the assessment, each participant will be provided with an PLA question item booklet. The questions within the booklet are proprietary, and accordingly, the booklets may not be removed from the room at any time. Furthermore, questions may not be copied or communicated with non-participants in any way. The question booklets must be returned upon completion of the assessment.

Participants will not be allowed to bring or use computers, cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or any other electronic or non-electronic device that may be construed as a transcription device. Non-programmable scientific calculators will be provided by CEO (Casio FX 260 brand).  Participants will be monitored and anyone found copying or transcribing questions or parts of questions will be expelled from the administration.

The CEO PLA has been incorporated within the Prior Learning Assessment portion of the International Optometric Bridging Program. It is important to remember that the results from the CEO PLA will not be used to make decisions about issuing professional license, or providing certification to practice optometry, or to determine the appropriateness of academic qualifications. Instead this administration of the CEO PLA is intended, and will only be used, to assist in the development of the International Optometric Bridging Program.
