Welcome to CEO

Canadian Examiners in Optometry (CEO) is a not-for-profit corporation whose shareholders are the ten provincial Regulators. CEO was created by the Regulators to address matters of common interest. These include:

  • describing the profession as practised in Canada, including describing quality practice,
  • assessing the competence of individual optometrists in the practice of optometry and providing the assessment results to the individuals and to relevant regulators,
  • providing mechanisms to evaluate the quality of practice of optometrists in Canada.

ICLO
ICLO is a written assessment of optometric knowledge and its clinical application. The ICLO provides a reliable indication of the current level of knowledge held by an optometrist about current optometric clinical science and practice.

 
PLA
CEO-ECO’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a written assessment of optometric knowledge and its clinical application. The PLA assists in identifying the breadth and depth learning of optometrists trained outside of Canada and the United States.
 
Research & Publications
Competence in optometry and the required performance standards are articulated on behalf of the profession corporately in Canada on a continuous basis by way of Committee-driven research and publications.
